Actuation method
There are three main types of gate valve actuation methods:
1. Manual gate valve: A manual gate valve has a manually spun handwheel to open or close the valve, as shown in Figure 3. This requires a user on-site to spin the wheel. A manual gate valve is the most economical, especially since the usage of gate valves once installed is typically low.
2. Pneumatic gate valve: A pneumatic gate valve uses a pneumatic actuator instead of a handwheel. By utilizing compressed air, the actuator can spin the stem to raise or lower the gate. This allows it to be operated remotely with no user on-site but requires a pneumatic system on site.
3. Electric gate valve: An electric gate valve uses an electric motor instead of a handwheel. By utilizing electrical power, the actuator spins the stem to raise or lower the gate. This allows it to be operated remotely with no user on-site but requires electrical power on-site. These are also referred to as motorized gate valves.
Have the following advantages:
① The fluid resistance is small.
② The external force required for opening and closing is small.
③ The flow direction of the medium is not restricted.
④ When fully opened, the erosion of the sealing surface by the working medium is smaller than that of the globe valve.
⑤ The shape is relatively simple, and the casting process is better.
The 14 inch gate valve also has shortcomings:
① The overall size and opening height are large. Installation requires more space.
② During the opening and closing process, there is relative friction between the sealing surfaces, which is easy to cause scratches.
③ Gate valves generally have two sealing surfaces, which adds some difficulties to processing, grinding and maintenance.

How to use the 14 inch gate valve?
1. The operating conditions of this valve must be consistent with the specifications on the nameplate and operating instructions.
2. When the valve is used, it can only be fully opened or fully closed to prevent damage to the sealing surface due to flow regulation.
3. When opening the valve, the apex of the valve stem is used as the fully open sign, that is, the position that cannot be opened is used as its fully open position. In order to consider the lock hole phenomenon caused by temperature changes, it is usually opened to the apex position, and then back to 1/2 ~1 turn as the fully open valve position.
4. When the valve is working, oil should always be applied to the trapezoidal thread and stem nut.
5. The valve can be opened and closed by rotating the handwheel, without the aid of other auxiliary levers or power.
