What is a low pressure bypass valve?

Low Pressure Bypass Valve, also known as Low pressure by-pass reducing control valve or lp bypass valve, is a steam pressure control valve, usually used in conjunction with power station gate valve, high and low pressure ball valve, butterfly valve, globe valve and other power plant valves.

The LP bypass valve connects the hot reheater in the bypass to the LP turbine with condenser. If the steam turbine is not running during start and stop, the steam generated in the reheater must be discharged to the turbine condenser through the medium pressure/low pressure bypass valve, bypassing the medium and low pressure steam turbine. The secondary injection cools the steam from the hot reheater sufficiently to ensure that the condenser does not suffer any damage.

The working principle of the low pressure bypass valve:

Cooling water is sprayed through pressure-controlled nozzles according to the steam flow. According to the cooling water flow, the nozzle in the center opens first. The other nozzles open as the cooling water flow increases. Axially aligned nozzles in the steam flow ensure uniform temperature distribution in the exhaust pipe.
